(NewsNation) — Selena Gomez is shutting down rumors that she’s feuding with Hailey Bieber, 28, after her comments about their makeup brands.
In a now-deleted Instagram Story from Oct. 17, Gomez, 33, wrote, “Just leave the girl alone.”
The “Only Murders in the Building” star added, “She can say whatever she wants. Doesn’t affect my life whatsoever. It’s just about relevance not intelligence,” according to E! News.
“All brands inspire me. There is room for everyone. And hopefully we can all stop,” the actress and singer said.
Gomez’s response is seemingly in reference to Bieber’s WSJ Magazine interview, where she was asked about her Rhode skincare line expanding (the brand is now being sold in Sephora) and comparing it with Gomez’s Rare Beauty brand, which is also sold at the beauty retailer.
“It’s always annoying being pitted against other people,” Bieber said in the interview published on Oct. 14. “I didn’t ask for that. When people want to see you a certain way and they’ve made up a story about you in their minds, it’s not up to you to change that.”
Bieber added, “I think there is space for everybody. I don’t feel competitive with people that I’m not inspired by.”
Sources told TMZ that Bieber’s comments didn’t have anything to do with Gomez.
Hailey Bieber, Selena Gomez’s rumored feud history
In 2018, Hailey Bieber, then Hailey Baldwin, married singer Justin Bieber, who was in a high-profile, on-and-off relationship with the “Swag” singer for several years.
According to the publication, fans of the two beauty moguls have said the two have ongoing issues, despite the two women denying any tension between them.
In February 2023, Gomez posted a TikTok video telling fans she “accidentally laminated my brows” too much.
Hours after the post, Bieber’s friend later Kylie Jenner posted a selfie on her Instagram story with the caption “this was an accident ?????” with the words placed over her eyebrows, USA Today reported.
Gomez wrote on her Instagram story in March 2023 that Bieber had reached out to her after their fans were spewing hate at each other and even making threats.
“Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity,” Gomez wrote. “This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying. I’ve always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop.”
