32K pounds of meat recalled nationwide

Recalled Chorizo from Sabrositos Hondurenos (via USDA)

(NewsNation) — Sabrositos Hondurenos, LLC, is recalling about 32,000 pounds of various meat products after they did not go through proper federal inspection, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

On Thursday, the New Jersey-based company issued a nationwide recall for meat products including chorizo, pork chops and ribs.

The recalled meats were never federally inspected and instead labeled with “Est. 1785,” a false USDA mark of inspection that “does not exist,” according to the FSIS.

“Food produced without inspection may contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria, or other contaminants that put consumer health and safety at risk,” the FSIS said.

The products were produced on various dates before Aug. 20 and shipped to retailers and restaurants around the country.

The FSIS is advising consumers who purchased the misbranded products to discard them or return them to where they were purchased. Restaurants and retailers should throw them away.

So far, there have been no reported illnesses in connection with the recalled meats.
