(NewsNation) — Prince Harry had two close encounters with a known stalker during his recent visit to the U.K. last month.
The woman, who may suffer from mental illness, managed to breach a “secure zone” at a London hotel where Harry was attending the WellChild Awards on Sept. 9, according to The Telegraph.
The woman was seen two days later close to the Centre for Blast Injury Studies in West London, where Harry visited.
A private staff member for Harry recognized the woman and “body-checked” her to prevent her from getting closer to him, The Telegraph reported.
Police weren’t at the event, and it’s unclear whether the woman was carrying a weapon.
The woman has reportedly stalked Harry and Meghan Markle before, having followed them during their trip to Nigeria last year.
“These incidents are not uncommon for members of the royal family,” a source told People magazine.
The source added, “It differs, however, because there was no police presence or close protection — it was left to two staffers from his private office to intervene. This time, they got lucky, recognizing the fixated individual. Relying on luck is not a long-term fix.”
During his visit to the U.K. Harry reunited with his father, King Charles, after 19 months apart.
Prince Harry loses appeal to restore security detail
Harry lost a legal fight with the British government in 2024 after a judge ruled that the U.K. government didn’t act irrationally when it stripped him and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, of publicly funded security.
In May, the Duke of Sussex faced another setback in his appeal against the government’s decision to remove his security after he stepped down as a senior royal and relocated to the U.S., according to The Associated Press.
