(NewsNation) — The Academy Awards will stream on YouTube in 2029, leaving its longtime home at ABC, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced.
The 100th Academy Awards, airing in 2028, will mark the show’s final broadcast on ABC.
YouTube will air the show exclusively for free worldwide and on YouTube TV in the U.S.
“Partnering with The Academy will inspire a new generation of creativity and film lovers while staying true to the Oscars’ storied legacy,” the company’s CEO Neal Mohan said on the YouTube blog.
YouTube will also stream the Oscars red-carpet coverage, the Governor’s Awards, the Oscar nominations and behind-the-scenes content.

“We are thrilled to enter into a multifaceted global partnership with YouTube to be the future home of the Oscars and our year-round Academy programming,” academy chief executive Bill Kramer and academy president Lynette Howell said in an official press release.
Adding, “The Academy is an international organization, and this partnership will allow us to expand access to the work of the Academy to the largest worldwide audience possible — which will be beneficial for our Academy members and the film community.”
