(NewsNation) — Universal Music Group has responded to Drake’s claim its CEO was behind Kendrick Lamar’s monster hit “Not Like Us.”

The company’s CEO, Lucian Grainge, called Drake’s claim “farcical” and “groundless and indeed ridiculous” in a letter filed in New York federal court Thursday, according to Forbes.

Grainge said that he never heard “Not Like Us” or saw its music video until they were released.

On Wednesday, the “What Did I Miss” rapper’s attorneys filed documents requesting evidence that UMG promoted a “false and malicious narrative” that Drake’s a pedophile, something claimed on Lamar’s song.

Drake is also signed to Universal Music Group

The UMG CEO said the lawsuit “makes no sense whatsoever” because Drake is also signed to the label.

The rapper has also requested to see Lamar’s contract with UMG and any documents related to the label’s alleged efforts to promote the song as well as communication with Spotify, YouTube and other streaming services, Forbes reports. Drake alleged that UMG has used bots to boost the song’s streams.

Grainge said that Drake is attempting “to waste my and UMG’s time and resources.”

Kendrick Lamar sees massive success with ‘Not Like Us”

“Not Like Us” was one of, if not the biggest, songs released in 2024. The song spent three weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
