(NewsNation) — The U.K.’s Metropolitan Police have charged a man for allegedly breaking into the grounds of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s London home before Christmas.
Derek Egan, 39, was charged with trespassing on a protected site and breaching bail conditions, a Metropolitan Police spokesperson told People magazine in a statement.
“The charges relate to incidents on Sunday, December 21, and Tuesday, December 23, when Egan was arrested on suspicion of trespassing on a protected site in Palace Green, Kensington,” the spokesperson said.

Other members of the royal family live at Kensington Palace, with the Prince and Princess Wales, who use a wing of the palace for their London residence, were not home at the time of the alleged break-ins, People Magazine reported.
Members of the royal family usually spend Christmas at Sandringham House, King Charles’s country estate in Norfolk, U.K.
In the sixties, when Queen Elizabeth II’s children were small, Christmases were spent at Windsor Castle, where they normally spent Easter, according to The Palace. However, since 1988, the family has brought in not only Christmas but the New Year at Sandringham.
