(NewsNation) — Actor Billy Porter is updating his fans about his health after he was diagnosed with sepsis.
The “Pose” star posted on Instagram on Monday, wishing his followers a “happy holiday, Merry Christmas, happy Kwanzaa, happy Hanukkah and everything in between.”
“Some of you may or may not know that I was in the hospital very ill this fall with urosepsis. It was not easy. It’s been a very, very challenging four months.”
The Grammy award winner said he isn’t back to feeling 100% but is on the “road to recovery.”

In his Instagram video, an emotional Porter said, “I wanted to thank everybody for your prayers and your love and sending me all the vibes. I felt every single one of them. And I know that I’m alive today because of my fans.”
‘Cabaret’ closes early
In September, producers for Broadway’s “Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club” announced that Porter was withdrawing from the show because of a “serious case of sepsis.”
“It is with a heavy heart that we have made the painful decision to end our Broadway run on September 21,” producer Adam Speers told Deadline in a statement at the time.
“On behalf of all the producers, we’re so honored to have been able to bring this version of John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Joe Masteroff’s important masterpiece, ‘Cabaret’, to New York and to have opened the doors to our own Kit Kat Club for the year and a half we have been here.”
The show was originally going to end on Oct. 19.
