(NewsNation) — Officials have identified a Kentucky State University student who was fatally shot on campus Tuesday.

The victim was 19-year-old De’Jon Darrell Fox Jr., according to the coroner’s office in Franklin County, Kentucky. He was an Indianapolis resident.

Another student, who has not yet been identified, was injured in the shooting and remains in critical condition.

The suspect, identified as Jacob Lee Bard of Evansville, Indiana, was not enrolled at the university, according to the Frankfort Police Department.

Bard has been charged with murder and first-degree assault. Court documents allege Bard was involved in “a physical altercation” on campus before firing a gun around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, NewsNation local affiliate WDKY reported. Officials have not confirmed a motive.

“As a parent, I cannot imagine receiving the call I placed to the parents. Our students need prayers. Kentucky State University needs prayers. I cannot thank our law enforcement enough,” said university president Koffi C. Akakpo.

The university is offering counseling and support services for students, faculty and staff.
