(NewsNation) — Cheryl Hines pulled many punches in her new book, “Untitled” — but did criticize two former Hollywood friends.
While her husband Robert “Bobby” F. Kennedy Jr. was running for President of the United States a lot of Hollywood was uncomfortable with his unorthodox views on vaccines and autism.
The West Coast crew — which had formerly loved being in the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actress and the former environmental lawyer’s circles — completely ditched her and Kennedy after her husband decided to support President Trump. She reserves some ire for the two who called her out publicly.
As Hines writes:
I had received a lot of texts saying—Are you okay? That guy’s an asshole. I was beyond curious to find out who the asshole was. I had mentally placed some bets on a few names, but [“West Wing” star] Bradley Whitford was not one. Bradley was an actor friend of mine who most famously starred in West Wing. I didn’t think Bradley was an asshole. I always liked him, and I had a good time with him when I ran into him on a set or at a party. I was quickly directed to his post on X: “Hey @Cherylhines. Way to stay silent while your lunatic husband throws his support behind the adjudicated rapist who brags about stripping women of their fundamental rights. Gutsy. Great example for the kids. Profile in Courage.
Hines then went on to question why Whitford didn’t reach out privately instead of humiliating her publicly, writing: “Why didn’t Bradley just call me…? Or did he think a post would carry more weight?”
She describes the incident as cyberbullying and noted that even Bill Maher defended her, saying: “Even the mafia doesn’t go after the wife.”
Cheryl Hines, Larry David haven’t spoken
But Whitford wasn’t the only one Hines went after.
Hines writes that she got a lot of flack after she appeared on stage with her husband and Trump, writing: “Just the mere fact that I was there supporting my husband was motivation enough for Laurie David, Larry’s ex-wife, to post on social media: ‘Cheryl Hines in her best and most watched performance yet as the ‘dutiful, adoring wife’ setting women back decades.’ She really covered a lot of territory with that one. I guess it was a dig at me as an actress, a wife and . . . a women’s movement leader? Had I, somehow, set women back to the 2000s or maybe the 1990s? To whatever year she thought I’d set women back, she wasn’t happy about it.’”
Hines declined to comment on how Larry David himself as well as her former podcast co-host and best friend, Tig Notaro, ditched her after the announcement — although she did confirm to Billy Bush that she and Larry haven’t spoken since 2024.
As for Notaro, during an interview on the podcast “Breaking Bread With Tom Papa,” the comedian said: “Cheryl was one of my favorite friends to be ridiculous with… But Cheryl’s married to Bobby Kennedy Jr. When he was announcing his run, I just felt like I needed to step away, because there are beliefs that were like a gnat on the arm years ago that were getting further into the spotlight… Cheryl wanted me to hear Bobby out. They had these good ideas, and I was like, ‘I can’t, I can’t, I can’t.’ I just didn’t trust it. And then he endorsed Trump, and then it just got hard… You’re okaying a particular ride for this country to go on.”
