(NewsNation) — Actor Ruby Rose has blasted Sydney Sweeney over her being cast in “Christy,” blaming her for the movie performing poorly at the box office.

The actor posted on Threads on Tuesday, saying that the original script for “Christy” was “incredible” and that she had once been cast in the movie before losing out on the role.

“The original Christy Martin script was incredible. Life-changing. I was attached to play Cherry,” she said. “Everyone had experience with the core material. Most of us were actually gay. It’s part of why I stayed in acting. Losing roles happens all the time.”

The “Orange is the New Black” actor added, “For her PR to talk about it flopping and saying SS did it for the ‘people’. None of ‘the people’ want to see someone who hates them, parading around pretending to be us,” Rose said. “You’re a cretin and you ruined the film. Period. Christy deserved better.”

‘Christy’ earns one of 2025’s lowest box office openings

The biopic earned $1.3 million at the domestic box office.

The movie, where Sweeney plays Hall of Fame boxer Christy Martin who’s a lesbian, opened in 2,011 theaters, with a theater average of $649. According to Box Office Mojo, “Christy” has one of the worst openings for a movie with over 2,000 screens.

On Monday, Sweeney said on Instagram that she was “deeply proud of this movie.”

“We don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact,” she wrote. “We all signed on to this film with the belief that Christy’s story could save lives.”

Sydney Sweeney’s rumored ‘feud’ with Zendaya

While Rose is directly calling out Sweeney, there may be an issue between Sweeney and actress Zendaya, according to the Daily Mail.

The “Euphoria” actresses are reportedly not in a good place due to their differing political ideologies, according to the Mail.

In response to Sweeney’s controversial American Eagle jeans ad campaign, President Donald Trump weighed in on the backlash, writing on Truth Social in August, “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the HOTTEST ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are flying off the shelves. Go get ‘em Sydney!”

The ad campaign Sweeney was in featured the tagline “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.” In the ad, Sweeney crosses out the word “jeans” and replaces it with “genes,” which spurred allegations of the brand promoting eugenics, some even comparing it to “Nazi propaganda.”

In an interview with GQ Magazine, Sweeney said that Trump and Vice President JD Vance commenting on the campaign was “surreal.”

The third and final season of “Euphoria” premieres next year, and Zendaya has refused to share a stage with the “Anyone But You” star during the series’ promotional tour.
