Presidential debate: Harris told reporters Thursday she’s “ready to debate Donald Trump” and accused him of “backpedaling” away from a previous agreement for the Sept. 10 ABC debate. What is the ‘KHive?’ Harris has long had a clique of supporters online, prompting an MSNBC correspondent to call her fans the “KHive” back in 2017. The nickname is a play on “BeyHive,” which is the name for fans of Beyoncé. Arson attacks paralyze French high-speed rail network hours before start of Olympics

Olympics: Widespread acts of vandalism including arson attacks hit France’s high-speed rail network Friday, paralyzing travel to Paris from across the rest of France and Europe. This happened hours before the grand opening ceremony of the Olympics. French officials condemned the attacks as “criminal actions” and said there was no sign of a direct link to the Olympic Games. Anti-Israel protesters burned US flags after Netanyahu speech

Protesters burn flags: Thousands of protesters against the war in Gaza converged on Washington, D.C., this week to condemn Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit. The protests became chaotic when a group pulled down three American flags from flagpoles outside of Union Station, burned them along with an effigy of Netanyahu, and vandalized the park in front of the station with anti-Israel and pro-Hamas graffiti. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, who was among a group of House Republicans who replaced the burned U.S. flags, told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo he thinks some protesters are “bused in” by radical groups funded by Iran. Harris to Netanyahu: Vice President Kamala Harris said she urged Netanyahu to reach a cease-fire deal soon with Hamas so that dozens of hostages can return home. “There has been hopeful movement in the talks to secure an agreement on this deal,” Harris told reporters shortly after meeting with Netanyahu. “And as I just told Prime Minister Netanyahu, it is time to get this deal done.” Read more >

EPA could now ban toxic substance burned in East Palestine derailment

Ohio train derailment: One of the toxic substances burned in the aftermath of a trail derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, last year has been designated as a high-priority chemical, which could lead to a full ban of the substance, the Environmental Protection Agency announced. Following the derailment in February 2023, local officials burned 116,000 gallons of toxic vinyl chloride, which released a plume of smoke over East Palestine. The EPA reported following the incident that there was no threat of exposure to residents from vinyl chloride, but residents have expressed concerns over long-term health risks. Read more >
