(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump announced Monday the United States will be building food centers in Gaza with assistance from the United Kingdom and other countries.

“Before we get to Phase 2, we want to get the children fed,” Trump said during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. “We’re going to set up food shelters where people can walk in. No boundaries, no fences.”

The announcement comes as the World Food Programme reported that 100% of the region faces acute levels of food insecurity.

Israel said over the weekend it would issue a humanitarian pause for 10 hours each day until further notice in Gaza City, Deir al-Balah and Muwasi to allow aid to get in. It also resumed airdrops of food.

Aid agencies have said that the new aid measures would not be enough to counter the rising hunger in Gaza.

Trump did not give a timeline for the project.
