(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump celebrated the Israel-Gaza ceasefire deal as he attended a summit in Egypt, where negotiations are ongoing.

“We have shown how it can be done—with responsible nations setting aside their differences, seeking common ground, and pursuing a better world for us all,” Trump said.

After more than two years, the remaining 20 living Israeli hostages held in Gaza were released by Hamas on Monday morning.

The release came after Hamas agreed to the terms of a ceasefire in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Israeli officials said Hamas retains the 28 bodies of hostages who were killed in captivity or during the Oct. 7 attack.

Trump marked the historic ceasefire with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli President Isaac Herzog and other leaders.

Trump addressed the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, where he received a standing ovation. Many of his Cabinet members also received standing ovations as they were recognized.

“Generations from now, this will be remembered as the moment that everything began to change,” Trump said to lawmakers.

Trump praised Israel’s leadership for being willing to end the war and having the courage to say “we won.” He also brought up the Iran nuclear deal, insisting that pulling out of the deal was necessary and praising his own strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, while also saying there was an opportunity for Iran to become a friend to Israel.

He addressed Israel’s president at one point, urging him to pardon Netanyahu.

“We have confronted evil together, we have waged war together, and perhaps most beautifully of all, we have made peace together. And this week, against all odds, we have done the impossible, and brought our hostages home,” he said.
