(NewsNation) — The United States ambassador to Israel is confident the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas will stay intact.
Ambassador Mike Huckabee joined “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” on Wednesday to discuss Israel launching strikes across Gaza and other Middle East developments.
“There’s certainly going to be moments when things get very fragile. I don’t think any of us doubted that would be the case, but the ceasefire is holding,” Huckabee told NewsNation.
“As someone who, for the first time in over a month, is no longer dodging ballistic missiles, it’s been a remarkable period of calm,” he said.
Dozens of Palestinians were reported to be killed in the airstrikes, which Israel says were retaliation for gunmen opening fire on Israeli soldiers.
“Hamas has not completely given up, and I think Israel is within its rights. They have to strike back when they are attacked by Hamas, when they break out of these tunnels,” Huckabee said.
The ambassador said the peace deal orchestrated by President Trump “is moving along very, very effectively and what’s most remarkable is that the various Arab nations who came together at Sharm El Sheikh to sign the agreement are holding firm.”
