(The Hill) — A group of senior Trump administration officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, will brief all senators Wednesday morning on the situation in Venezuela and President Donald Trump’s plans for managing the power vacuum after the ouster of President Nicolás Maduro.

Rubio and Hegseth will join Attorney General Pam Bondi, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine at the briefing, according to a source familiar with the meeting.

The briefing is scheduled to take place Wednesday at 10 a.m. EST.

Those same officials briefed the Gang of Eight senior members of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as well as their House counterparts, on Monday evening.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) said that Monday’s briefing left many questions unanswered.

“While this briefing was very extensive and long, it posed far more questions than it ever answered,” he said. “Their plan for the U.S. running Venezuela is vague, based on wishful thinking, and was unsatisfying. I did not receive any assurances that we would not try to do the same thing in other countries.”

The overnight strike against the Maduro regime over the weekend has raised the prospect that the Trump administration may conduct other military operations to expand U.S. influence, including taking over Greenland, a territory of Denmark.

Stephen Miller, a senior aide to Trump, said on Monday that Greenland rightfully belongs to the U.S. and the administration could seize the island if it decided to do so.

“Nobody’s going to fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland,” Miller told CNN.
