(NewsNation) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s corruption trial has begun, and President Donald Trump has said he will “be involved.”

In an interview with “60 Minutes” on Sunday, Trump said he wanted to “help him out a little bit” and said Netanyahu is a talented man who has been treated poorly.

Netanyahu is standing trial for charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust in three different cases that have stretched out for more than four years.

The trial is happening as the region remains an active environment in the Middle East, especially when it comes to Gaza.

The Israel Defense Forces said they have received intelligence that the Red Cross is on its way to retrieve a coffin containing the remains of one of the deceased hostages who has yet to be returned.

The ceasefire proposal put forth by Trump includes the demand for Hamas to either disarm on its own or be disarmed by force, giving the group no option to govern Gaza once everything is over.

In addition to plans for Gaza, the president has been very outspoken on other matters in Israel, including the cases Netanyahu is involved with.

Trump said that he does not believe those are genuine cases.

“I don’t think they treat him very well. He’s under trial for some things, and I don’t think they treat him very well. I think it should, you know, we’ll, we’ll be involved in that to help him out a little bit, because I think it’s very unfair,” Trump said.

The president has not provided clarity on how he would assist Netanyahu or on the U.S.’ involvement.
