Trump, Zelenskyy to speak with European leaders before meeting

(NewsNation) — Ahead of their in-person meeting on Sunday, President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are scheduled to host a conference call with European allies Saturday, a Ukrainian official confirmed to NewsNation.

The goal is to brief the European leaders on the latest details of their peace proposals to end the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

As of now, the meeting on Sunday between Trump and Zelenskyy is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. ET, the official said. A joint news conference is tentatively planned.

Despite the planned peace talks, Russia has continued to be aggressive. Russia attacked Ukraine’s capital with missiles and drones early Saturday morning, killing one person and wounding 27, the Associated Press reported.

President Zelenskyy told reporters Friday the 20-point peace plan is 90% complete. The Ukrainian president also said he spoke to U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner on Christmas.

But there are still some outstanding details to be worked out, which include security guarantees to ensure Russia cannot invade Ukraine again, as well as the disputed territory.

Zelenskyy posted on X, “We are not losing a single day. We have agreed on a meeting at the highest level with President Trump in the near future. A lot can be decided before the new year. Glory to Ukraine.”
