Putin ‘doesn’t want peace’: Ex-Ukrainian official

(NewsNation) — As the presidents of the United States and Ukraine prepare to meet to discuss a peace plan to end the war in Ukraine, one Ukrainian official says he doesn’t think Russian President Vladimir Putin wants peace.

Igor Novikov, former adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, tells NewsNation’s “Morning in America with Hena Doba” that he’s “not exactly getting those peace vibes from Moscow at the moment.”

“I haven’t seen a single sign that Putin wants peace,” Novikov said.

At least three missiles passed by his house Saturday morning, he said, when Russia attacked Kyiv, killing one and wounding many, despite the ongoing peace talks.

“But hopefully President Trump can put enough pressure on Moscow to come to some sort of an agreement to end this war,” Novikov said optimistically.

President Donald Trump and Zelenskyy are set to meet in person in Florida Sunday afternoon to discuss the 20-point peace plan the countries have drafted.

“It’s not his call,” Novikov said of Zelenskyy and his preparedness to make land concessions, if necessary. “We’re a democracy, and it’s the Ukrainian people’s call in terms of land concessions. So, he’s not at liberty to just kind of take and give land. He’s not Vladimir Putin.”
