(NewsNation) — Catherine, Princess of Wales, is in remission from cancer, according to an announcement on Instagram.

Princess Kate thanked the health care workers who took care of her over the past year and said she is relieved to be in remission and focused on recovery. She also announced a new role in her royal portfolio.

“In my new role as Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden, my hope is, that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family well-being, we might save many more lives, and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer,” she wrote.

Kate has gradually begun resuming her royal duties in recent weeks as the royal family dealt with the impact of health issues over the past year.

Last February, it was announced King Charles was being treated for cancer, followed by the announcement that the princess was also undergoing cancer treatment.

The palace announced she had completed chemotherapy in September and was recovering with her family.
