(NewsNation) — A man in British Columbia, Canada, managed to successfully defend himself against a cougar by fighting fire with fire.
According to the British Columbia Conservation Officer Service, the attack occurred Saturday morning, with the man suffering minor injuries.
“The man was working in the Lake Kathlyn area when a cougar approached him and swiped his upper body … he punched the cougar in the face and it disengaged,” the Facebook post read.
The unidentified man did not need medical treatment in the hospital. Despite efforts to locate the cougar, attempts have been unsuccessful.
According to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, individuals who encounter cougars should make themselves appear larger, throw branches or stones and not turn away.
Running is never an option, nor crouching down, but speaking loudly and slowly is advised.
Western Wildlife Outreach recommends fighting back, even with your bare hands, should a cougar attack.
