MONMOUTH COUNTY, N.J. (PIX11) — A nor’easter churning up the East Coast is forecast to bring rain and heavy winds across the tri-state area throughout Monday.

New Jersey is under a state of emergency as the storm could stir up wind gusts as strong as 60 mph along the coast. A coastal flood warning is in effect for parts of the Garden State through 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Officials warn that there’s also potential for rip currents, beach erosion and coastal flooding. PSE&G is dealing with over 2,000 power outages as of Monday morning.

High wind warnings and advisories in New Jersey are expected to expire at 6 a.m.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid traveling if possible, plan alternative routes and extra commuting time. NJ Transit has suspended and rerouted some train lines due to the storm.
