AMERICAN FORK, Utah (ABC4) — 10 years ago, a missing Utah County man resurfaced in rural Arizona, despite having no ties to the state, only to vanish once again.

On Dec. 3, 2015, Haruchika Miyagi, 34, the founder of an investment software program from American Fork, didn’t show up for work. His friends and family began searching for him but found nothing.

Resurfacing in central Arizona

Two days later, a woman called police to report a man had trespassed onto her property seven miles outside of Dewey, Arizona. The man, later identified as Miyagi, reportedly asked the woman for a place to stay. When the woman declined, he allegedly sped away in a red Mazda Protege, crashing through a gate on his way out.

Deputies with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office later found the Mazda stuck in a wash nearby with heavy damage to the front end of the car. According to police reports, Miyagi was never seen again.

Miyagi lived over 500 miles away in American Fork. A decade later, police don’t know why he was in Dewey, Arizona.

Going offline

According to the Charley Project, an online missing person database, Miyagi founded an investment software program and was involved in multiple companies. He was also reportedly very active on social media and even uploaded several videos to a YouTube channel.

Miyagi’s final Facebook post was made on the evening of his disappearance at approximately 9 p.m. Reports show the post read, “The power of giving is important. Want to give as much as possible. Its called Karma.”

Police believe he had a cell phone with him during the disappearance, but it was turned off. The device was pinged shortly after he left the residence in Dewey, Arizona.

According to a national missing person’s database, Miyagi is about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds with black hair and a Chinese lettering tattoo on his left arm.

He was last seen wearing a blue long sleeve shirt with blue pants and Vans shoes.

Anyone with information on Miyagi’s whereabouts are asked to contact American fork Police at 801-763-3020.
