Missing 96-year-old woman may have been displaced by Eaton fire: LASD

(NewsNation) — An elderly woman who resides in Altadena has not been seen since the Eaton fire destroyed the community, and authorities are asking the public for help in locating her. 

96-year-old Elizabeth Jane Behny was last seen in the 2000 block of Pinecrest Drive in the unincorporated area of Altadena on Jan. 5 – two days before the Eaton fire erupted — according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.  


The area where Behny was last seen is approximately a mile away from where the Eaton fire was first reported near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive. 

LASD confirmed that Behny resided in a fire zone and may be displaced due to the fire that ravaged the community. 

She is described as standing 5 feet, 1 inch tall and weighing 92 pounds. What she was wearing last is unknown, and she requires a walker to get around. 

Her family is concerned for her well-being, LASD said.

As of Saturday morning, the Eaton fire was 95% contained, having already scorched over 14,000 acres and incinerating thousands of structures, including historic homes and businesses.
