A 25-year-old man died in a crash that also left five others injured in Griffith Park overnight, authorities confirmed.

According to a California Highway Patrol spokesperson, the collision occurred on the northbound span of the 5 Freeway at the Los Feliz Boulevard off-ramp just before 3:20 a.m. Sunday.

Not many details surrounding the crash itself were immediately available; however, the spokesperson was able to verify that multiple cars were involved and one person was pronounced dead at the scene. Video from the scene shows at least three damaged vehicles.

The Los Angeles Fire Department, just before 7 a.m., released more information surrounding the incident in an emergency alert. The decedent was identified as a 25-year-old man.

“[He] was determined dead on scene after being ejected from a vehicle,” the LAFD alert states.

The man’s name was not immediately released.

LAFD indicated there were five other victims who were taken to a hospital. One of the five, a 28-year-old man, was listed in serious condition; the other four — a 61-year-old man, a 35-year-old woman, and two 22-year-old men — were transported in “fair” condition.

A SigAlert was issued for the northbound 5 between Glendale and Los Feliz boulevards, with only one lane being open as authorities worked to clear the scene. The roadway near the crash site was fully reopened around 9:45 a.m., more than six hours after the incident occurred.

There was no word right away on what caused the crash or whether speed or impairment were factors.
