(NewsNation) — A body recently recovered from Mount Hood National Forest near Portland, Oregon, is that of a 51-year-old hunter who was reported missing Oct. 31, authorities say.

The Clackamas County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death of Devon Dobek of Hubbard, Oregon, as accidental, the sheriff’s office said in an update on social media this week.

“Our thoughts are with Devon’s family and friends at this difficult time,” police said.

Dobek reportedly messaged a friend late last month that he was heading home early from a hunting trip after shooting a deer, but he did not return.

Authorities searched for a week before suspending the operation in the challenging terrain. But on Nov. 15, volunteers reported spotting a body at the base of a 400-foot cliff near the Fish Creek Trailhead.

Dobek’s truck had been located near the trailhead earlier in the search efforts.
