MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida man was caught stealing hundreds of pounds of avocados from a farm in Miami-Dade County this week, officials said.

Deputies were patrolling the area of Southwest 217th Avenue and 320th Street early Monday morning when they spotted a man picking avocados and loading them into a trunk, according to an arrest report obtained by NB6 6 South Florida.

The man, identified as Edel Perez, 29, was dressed in a black hoodie and had a black Mercedes parked near the grove. Deputies searched the Mercedes and found bags filled with avocados, along with several loose avocados in the trunk, according to the report.

In total, investigators said they discovered nearly 400 pounds worth of stolen avocados, valued at about $800. They believe Perez cut through a fence line to get onto the property.

Perez was taken into custody on charges of trespassing on an agricultural site and third-degree grand theft. His bond was set at $5,000.
