(NewsNation) — A 10-year-old boy drove home from school following a fight with his mom, according to multiple reports.

Police in Tennessee said the boy’s mother called 911, saying she left him inside her running car to drop off some paperwork. When she returned, the car and her son were gone. Surveillance video showed that no one had entered the vehicle.

Authorities quickly located the car and determined the boy had jumped into the driver’s seat and driven himself home once she entered the school.

“A witness reported the vehicle backed out recklessly, nearly hit another car, jumped a curb, and sped off toward Lebanon Road,” authorities said.

Officers found the vehicle parked inside the open garage of the boy’s home. After arriving, they found the boy with his father.

While investigating the home, police discovered the boy’s father had an outstanding warrant for alleged “theft of property — wire fraud.” He was taken into custody without incident.

None of the family members has been publicly identified.

Authorities decided not to file charges against the boy because he is too young to be held criminally responsible.
