(NewsNation) — Following Travis Kelce’s engagement to Taylor Swift, rumors are once again swirling that the Kansas City Chiefs player will retire after the current season.
People within the Chiefs organization are allegedly anticipating that the upcoming 2025 season will be Kelce’s last in the NFL, according to the New York Post.
The upcoming NFL season will be Kelce’s 13th. He was drafted in 2013.
Travis Kelce: ‘I can’t go out like that’
The tight end has already been a tremendous asset to the organization, helping lead the Kansas City Chiefs to three Super Bowl wins.
However, during the Chiefs’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl LIX, Kelce posted career lows in receiving yards, yards per reception and receiving touchdowns, marking his worst performance of the season, ESPN reports.
Following the loss, on “New Heights,” Kelce said of retirement, “I’m gonna take some time to figure it out.”
Fans bet on whether Travis Kelce would retire last season
Shortly after he made his comments, FanDuel Canada posted odds on whether he would announce his retirement by April 24, 2025, according to SI.com.
Most people bet Kelce wouldn’t retire at the end of last season, shown by the -196 odds on “no.” But anyone who wagered he was done playing could have cashed in at +150 if he did retire.
However, later in February, Kelce expressed “I can’t go out like that” to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, according to ESPN.
Kelce, 35, is in the final year of his contract.
“Since he announced his return to the Chiefs in late February, all signs have pointed to the 2025 season being Kelce’s last,” according to ESPN. “Since June, Kelce, who is in the final year of his contract, has spoken about his future with the team through only this season.”
There haven’t been any bets placed yet this year on whether he would retire after his 13th season with the league.
The Chiefs want Travis Kelce to leave in style
If the 2025 season is the “New Heights” host’s last, the organization wants to give him a “Hollywood-like ending,” like the way quarterbacks Peyton Manning and John Elway went out, according to ESPN.
“Hopefully he’ll go out a champion,” Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said at the NFL combine. “Hopefully, he has a magical season to end a magical career.”
Travis Kelce’s future looks bright
If Kelce hangs up his uniform after this season, he still has personal and professional endeavors ahead.
In news that shocked “Swifties” and much of the world, Kelce is getting married to music superstar Swift after proposing to the singer with what jewelry experts think is a 7–10 carat ring worth $500,000 to nearly $1.3 million.
American Eagle recently announced a collaboration with Kelce and his Tru Kolors brand.
He launched his sportswear and lifestyle brand in 2019, according to the company.
The line will feature over 90 pieces, including varsity jackets, vintage-inspired tees and cashmere sets, the company announced.
The tight end served as creative director for “AE x TK by Travis Kelce” with the clothing company, American Eagle said in a news release.
Kelce also co-hosts the “New Heights” show alongside his brother Jason Kelce, the former Philadelphia Eagles center.
His new fiancé announced her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” earlier this month. The episode led to the show garnering the most views in its history.
