Police release photo of suspect in Jets’ Kris Boyd shooting

NEW YORK (PIX11) – The NYPD released a photo on Monday of the man accused of shooting Jets cornerback Kris Boyd in Manhattan, sources told NewsNation affiliate PIX11 News.

Sources said the 29-year-old football player was shot in the abdomen outside of a club on Sunday, around 2 a.m. Boyd left the club, possibly with two other Jets players, when someone tried to steal his chain, according to sources.

Sources said Boyd and the suspect began fighting, which is when shots were fired.

Police said the suspect fled the shooting, going east on West 38th Street. He was last seen wearing a black cap, black sweatshirt, black pants, multi-colored sneakers, and carrying a black bookbag.

“I am praying for New York Jets player Kris Boyd and his loved ones. Although we’ve gotten shootings to historic lows in our city, we must continue to work to end gun violence. Too many young lives have been tragically altered and cut short by this epidemic,” Mayor Eric Adams wrote on X.

The NYPD has not identified the victim as Boyd. He hasn’t played this season due to being placed on injured reserve after hurting his shoulder during practice in August.

A Jets spokesperson told PIX11 News in a statement, “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.”

Boyd is awake and speaking with detectives, according to sources. Police are searching for two dark-colored vehicles seen in the area during the shooting – a Mercedes that the shooter fled in and a blue-gray BMW.
