NEW YORK (PIX11) — A New York Jets Ring of Honor member and former All-Pro offensive lineman is asking for your help.

Nick Mangold and the New York Jets released a statement on Tuesday to the Jets community in search of a kidney donor. Mangold said he was diagnosed in 2006 with a “genetic defect” that has led to ongoing kidney complications.

“I always knew this day would come, but I thought I would have had more time,” Mangold said.

Mangold said he does not have a family member who can donate, which is why he turned to Jets fans. “After a rough summer, I’m undergoing dialysis as we look for a kidney transplant,” Mangold said.

The Jets and Mangold provided information on how to help. Mangold needs a donor with type “O” blood.
