(NewsNation) — The sneakers Kobe Bryant wore during his famed 2013 “Achilles game” sold for $660,000 at auction on Friday.

The iconic shoes were from Bryant’s legendary performance against the Golden State Warriors on April 12, 2013. It was a game the former Los Angeles Lakers star soldiered through despite tearing his Achilles tendon late in the fourth quarter.

“There is no moment in Kobe’s career more emblematic of the ‘Mamba Mentality’ than ‘The Achilles Game,” auction house Sotheby’s wrote in a catalog note.

Bryant went down clutching his left heel with about three minutes left in the fourth quarter. Despite his visible pain, the five-time NBA champion insisted on shooting two free throws. He made both.

“Perhaps more than anything else, Kobe Bryant is remembered as the perfect embodiment of the competitive spirit,” the Sotheby’s auction description said.

Sotheby’s estimated Bryant’s game-worn pair of Nike Kobe 8 Elite “Lakers Home” sneakers would sell for between $600,000 and $800,000.

The shoes are the latest piece of Kobe memorabilia to fetch big money.

Last August, Bryant’s locker at the Staples Center sold for $2.9 million, making it the most valuable sports locker to ever sell at auction, ESPN reported.

In 2023, a signed Bryant jersey he wore during his lone MVP season sold for over $5.8 million, making it the second-most expensive basketball jersey ever sold, ESPN said.

Bryant memorabilia has shot up in value ever since his tragic death in 2020. He and eight others, including his 13-year-old daughter, were killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.
