(NewsNation) — Emergency dispatches from a Wednesday afternoon domestic incident in Ann Arbor, Mich., may shed light on the arrest of fired University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore, who is being held at the Washtenaw County Jail.
In recordings from the Broadcastify platform, an emergency responder reports that a woman says a man who has stalked her for months is “attacking her” at a house. In subsequent audio, the wife and the mother of the unnamed suspect reports that the man police are after is at a parking lot.
“We are attempting to have wife contact him” and get him to come home, according to the recording. In another recorded dispatch, it’s reported that the spouse has told authorities the subject is “suicidal” about his job.
Moore was dismissed from his position as Michigan head coach on Wednesday over what university officials say was an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member.” Authorities said Moore had been taken into custody, but details have been scarce.
In a statement to NewsNation on Thursday, the Prosecutor’s Office in Washtenaw County, where Ann Arbor is located, said, “The matter involving Mr. Moore remains under active investigation by law enforcement, and as a result, we do not expect charging decisions or an arraignment today.”
The local Pittsfield Police Department added that a suspect in an alleged assault investigation would be arraigned on Friday.
Moore, 39, spent two seasons as head coach for the University of Michigan and was coming off back-to-back winning seasons with the Wolverines. Following Moore’s termination on Wednesday, athletic director Warde Manuel released a statement regarding the university’s investigation.
“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately. Following a university investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member,” Manuel said. “This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”
The program has appointed Biff Poggi as interim head coach.
In a statement released on Thursday, University of Michigan President Domenico Grasso said the school would be moving forward with integrity.
“There is absolutely no tolerance for this conduct at the University of Michigan. None. I have been in close communication with the Board of Regents and we are united in committing to doing what is right,” Grasso said.
“This breach of trust by Coach Moore is painful for many in our community, first and foremost, the individuals directly involved in this situation. Yet our swift and decisive action reflects the University’s staunch commitment to a campus culture of respect, integrity and accountability.
“All of the facts here must be known, so the University’s investigation will continue. I encourage anyone with information about this matter to confidentially contact UMconcerns@jenner.com.”
