(NewsNation) — Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy has apologized after calling for the “murder” of Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll following the Broncos’ 24-17 defeat of the Raiders.
“PRISON FOR EVERYBODY!! THAT’S THE BIGGEST RIG JOB IVE EVER SEEN. INVESTIGATE THE NFL. INVESTIGATE PETE CARROLL. IVESTIGATE THE RAIDERS!!!” Portnoy posted to social media.
Daniel Carlson’s 46-yard field goal on the final play gave a particularly nasty beat to Broncos bettors. Denver was favored by 7 1/2 points at BetMGM Sportsbook.
Carlson would never have had a shot at the field goal if Broncos safety Brandon Jones hadn’t drawn a delay-of-game penalty for not allowing wide receiver Tyler Lockett to get up after a 26-yard gain. That penalty stopped the clock with five seconds remaining.
Portnoy claims to have lost $250,000 due to the outcome of the game.
What is a ‘bad beat’?
A “bad beat” is a term used primarily in poker and sports betting.
According to Sports Illustrated, “a bad beat happens when a bet that appears to be a guaranteed winner becomes a loser at the very end of a game due to a highly unlikely or ‘meaningless’ play that affects the point spread or total score.”
