While Major League Baseball parks share many fan-favorite food items in common, Toronto’s Rogers Centre, home of the American League Champion Toronto Blue Jays, stands out for one distinctly French-Canadian offering: poutine.
So what exactly is poutine? And does it really belong in the ballpark?
That was a topic of discussion on KTLA 5 Morning News Friday ahead of Game 1 of the World Series between Toronto and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
As KTLA weather anchor Mark Kriski, a Montreal native and fan of the dish, explained, traditional poutine is french fries smothered in gravy and covered with cheese curds. “Then you have to put it in the oven and bake it so the cheese melts,” he said.
KTLA’s Eric Spillman, reporting live from Toronto, argued, “I’m sorry, but at a baseball game? You’re cheering, you’re clapping, and your hands have gravy all over them?”
Mark clapped back: “I’d rather my partner eat poutine than those garlic fries.”
