PITTSBURG, Texas (KETK) – A tortoise named Tortilla was reunited with its family after being picked up by Pittsburg Animal Control.

Wednesday morning, the animal control shared that they found an “unusual pet.”

According to the Pittsburg Animal Control, they decided to be cryptic with their found pet announcement since it wasn’t a run-of-the-mill pet.

“We will ask you to describe the pet so we can make sure it goes to its rightful home,” the animal control said.

Less than three hours after sharing their find, the animal control shared that the pet, an African Spurred Tortoise named Tortilla, was reunited with its owner.

According to the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, the African Spurred Tortoise lives for about 80 to 100 years and is a popular pet that get “extremely large.”

“They are quite strong and very active,” the zoo alliance said. “They are capable of running and burrowing quite well.”

The zoo alliance said the tortoise is most active between the months of July and October and can go weeks without food or water.

“As always, animal control is not just about dogs,” animal control officials said.
