FORT WORTH, Texas (WFLA) — The Fort Worth Texas Police Department said two of its officers responded to a vehicle collision that resulted in the driver and infant child being ejected from the vehicle on Oct. 23.

The infant was unresponsive and pinned underneath the overturned vehicle on I-30, FWPD said.

Body camera footage showed the officers rushing to flip the vehicle off of the infant with the help of witnesses to the accident.

An officer immediately performed CPR after freeing the unconscious infant, eventually resuscitating the child and keeping her alive until the Fort Worth Fire Department’s arrival.

According to body camera footage, officers expressed sentiments of relief as the infant began to cry, giving hope that the she would recover after this major accident.

“We are beyond proud of the life saving actions performed by Sgt. Nichols and Officer Bounds for their bravery and quick response to this terrible scene,” FWTPD said. “We are also grateful to the Fort Worth citizens who saw someone in danger and, without hesitation, assisted our officers.”

The driver and infant are in stable condition and are expected to make a full recovery.
