ANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) – A small, furry “suspect” reportedly broke into a Virginia liquor store and ransacked several shelves over the weekend, after which he was found passed out on the bathroom floor.
Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter shared news of the incident on Saturday, explaining that an officer responded to an unusual call at Virginia ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority) store in Ashland.
When the officer arrived, she found that a raccoon had broken into the store, knocked liquor bottles from shelves and passed out in the bathroom after becoming “intoxicated.”
The officer “safely secured our masked bandit and transported him back to the shelter to sober up before questioning,” a representative for the animal shelter wrote on Facebook.
The raccoon recovered at the Hanover shelter, ultimately showing no signs of injury.
“[He] was safely released back to the wild, hopefully having learned that breaking and entering is not the answer,” the Facebook page explained.
