FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) — A Florence man was arrested on Monday after allegedly assaulting a female family member over them cooking two meats for dinner, an arrest warrant said.

Justin Christopher McWhite, 35, was charged with attempted murder after Sunday’s incident at a home on the 1200 block of Diggs Avenue.

A family member who witnessed the incident told police that McWhite was upset about two meats being cooked for dinner and that he followed the victim into a bedroom, the warrant said. The witness then heard the victim say, “Justin I’m not scared of you,” before hearing them scream for help.

The witness said McWhite was choking the victim with one hand and beating them with the other, the warrant said. The victim was “severely assaulted” on the face before being taken to a local hospital and then moved to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for more specialized care.

McWhite left the scene before officers arrived but was arrested by Florence County deputies on Monday, police said.
