CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. (WFLA) — Hundreds of manatees gathered for warmth at Three Sisters Springs along the Crystal River on Wednesday.
Drone video from the Southwest Florida Water Management District shows the manatees huddled for warmth as onlookers gathered for viewing.
The Southwest Florida Water Management District said volunteers counted 300 manatees at 9 a.m., and the air temperature was around 35 degrees.
Manatees gather in the springs for the consistent water temperature for refuge in cold temperatures.
The City of Crystal River and the Southwest Florida Water Management District own the property, and it is also managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
