Home-built helicopter crashes in Alabama — pilot injured

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — A home-built helicopter crashed in Mobile County on Thursday, Jan. 8, and left the pilot with injuries.

According to the Mobile Police Department, the crash happened off Bayfront Road near Dauphin Island Parkway sometime on Thursday.

Police were called to the crash scene on Friday morning.

The Federal Aviation Administration lists the aircraft as a Sled Thomas Helicycle, which was manufactured in 2003.

MPD officials said the pilot walked away with minor injuries.
