ORANGE PARK, Fla. (WFLA) — An 8-year-old girl stabbed her grandmother to protect her mother during a murder attempt Monday, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office reported that around 3 p.m., CCSO deputies responded to a disturbance call in the 600 block of Reese Avenue in the Oakleaf area.

The caller was later determined to be the victim and could be heard throughout the call yelling for an individual to leave her home.

According to the sheriff’s office, the victim had gotten into a fight with her estranged mother, 62-year-old Serpil Adams. Deputies said Adams showed up at the victim’s home uninvited.

Investigators said the victim was at home with her two young children when Adams entered the home through an unlocked door and attacked her daughter with a serrated utility knife.

According to deputies, in an attempt to protect her mother, the victim’s 8-year-old daughter, Adams’ granddaughter, retrieved a kitchen knife and stabbed Adams in the upper arm.

Deputies said Adams then fled the area in her vehicle and returned to Jacksonville, where she had been staying with a friend.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office located Adams at the friend’s residence and arrested her. She has been charged with attempted 2nd degree murder.

Neither the victim nor her children were injured during the incident.
