SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — A child was swept into a drainage system Sunday after a water main break occurred in Florida.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, the break occurred around 6:15 p.m. local time

At the time of the break, a small child playing near a culvert was pulled into the drainage system due to the strong water flow. The child was carried through the drain approximately 100 yards.

The Sarasota County Fire Department responded to the scene, and the child was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

A representative of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office could not confirm the condition of the child.

A neighbor told NewsNation affiliate WFLA that he was experiencing low water pressure in his home due to the water main break.
