11-year-old charged with homicide after fatal Perry County shooting

DUNCANNON, Pa. (WHTM) — An 11-year-old has been charged with homicide after a fatal shooting in Perry County early Tuesday morning, court documents show.

According to online court documents, the juvenile was denied bail on Tuesday evening and taken to Perry County Prison after being arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Richard Gibney. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 22.

The Perry County District Attorney’s Office says there was a report of a male with a gunshot wound at a residence along South Market Street, and that authorities responded to around 3 a.m.

The man, identified by the DA’s Office as 42-year-old Douglas Dietz, was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound at the residence.

According to the DA’s Office, it was determined during the investigation that the juvenile was involved in the incident, and they were taken into custody. The identity of the juvenile was not released.

The investigation is ongoing, and there is no threat to the public, the DA’s Office said.
