CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – More than 108,000 South Carolina residents had their personal information, including Social Security numbers, compromised in a data breach, according to the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs.
700Credit, which assists dealerships across the country with consumer financing options, reported the results of an internal investigation showing that 108,829 South Carolinians in its system had certain records copied without authorization.
The information copied included records detailing individuals’ names, addresses, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers, a 700Credit notice states.
Around Oct. 25, 2025, the service reportedly became aware of suspicious activity within its web application. An investigation was launched with the help of third-party computer forensics specialists.

700Credit said that once the review was completed, they found no evidence that the copied personal information was subject to “actual or attempted misuse” at this time. The breach was reported to SCDCA on Dec. 15, 2025.
As a result of the breach, 700Credit is offering impacted customers free access to credit monitoring services through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company.

Clients can also monitor their credit through one of the three major credit reporting bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
