Wegmans Mixed Nuts recalled over potential Salmonella contamination

(NewsNation) — The supermarket chain Wegmans has issued a recall on its Deluxe Mixed Nuts Unsalted product over a potential Salmonella contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The two products listed in the recall include:

-Wegmans Deluxe Mixed Nuts Unsalted 34 oz (964 grams)
-Wegmans Deluxe Mixed Nuts Unsalted 11.5 oz (326 grams)

“The issue was discovered after routine testing by our supplier found one lot of raw pistachios to be positive for Salmonella,” the company announced. “A recall was initiated after determining these pistachios had been further used in the production of the Deluxe Mixed Nuts products.”

Wegmans states that the affected products were sold at its locations in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., between Nov. 3 and Dec. 1.

No illnesses were reported as a result of consumption of the products, the company added.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
