(NewsNation) — Ford Motor Company is recalling roughly 103,000 F-150 pickups due to concerns that weakened rear axle hubs may result in the vehicle rolling away while parked or cause a loss of drive power, which can increase the risk of a crash.

Letters were sent to owners of certain 2023-2025 F-150s on August 22, notifying them of the safety risk. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a recall notice that “the rear axle hub bolt may fatigue and break, which can result in damage to the axle hub splines.” A spokesperson for Ford told CBS News that the company is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this recall.

In its letter to owners, Ford said, “If you hear a clicking or rattling noise originating from the rear wheel center cap, please contact your dealer as soon as possible to schedule an inspection to determine if a repair is needed.”

According to the NHTSA, dealers will replace the left and right rear axle shaft assemblies, free of charge. Ford added that the repair takes less than half a day to be made, but dealers may need the vehicle longer depending on service scheduling requirements.
