Soap recall expands to 30 products from shampoo to deodorant and more

(NewsNation) — A DermaRite Industries hand soap recall has been expanded to more than 30 products, including deodorant, lotions, shampoo and hand sanitizer.

The recall was initiated in July and was expanded over concerns that more products may include Burkholderia cepacia complex. Exposure to the bacterium could “result in serious and life-threatening infections,” the company said in a release.

“For healthy individuals with minor skin lesions, the use of the product may result in local infections, whereas in immunocompromised individuals the infection could spread into the blood stream, potentially leading to life-threatening sepsis,” the release noted.

Symptoms of bacteria exposure include fever, fatigue and possible respiratory infections for patients with compromised immune systems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The products were distributed nationwide in the U.S., including Puerto Rico.
