(NewsNation) — Big-box retailer Costco has warned customers who purchased some of its store-brand sparkling wine to dispose of it immediately — and don’t try to return it to the store.

The Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene has a risk of “unopened bottles shattering, even when not handled or in use,” the company said.

Costco advised consumers to dispose of their bottles immediately by wrapping the unopened wine in paper towels, placing it in a plastic bag and then putting it in the garbage — to “avoid risk from shattered glass.”

The product was sold between April 25 and Aug. 26 in stores across a dozen states:

  • Iowa
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • Missouri
  • Nebraska
  • North Dakota
  • Ohio
  • South Dakota
  • Wisconsin

The sparkling wine’s item ID is 1879870.

Those who purchased a bottle are entitled to a full refund, the company said.
