(NewsNation) — About 58 million pounds of corn dog and “sausage on a stick” products have been recalled due to concerns about pieces of wood being found in the batter, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The issue was discovered after Hillshire Brands, a subsidiary of Tyson Foods, received complaints from consumers, with at least five people reporting injuries. Following an investigation, the company found that “wooden sticks entered the production process prior to product battering,” the USDA said.

The recalled products include Jimmy Dean Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick and State Fair Corn Dogs on a Stick products, which have “EST-582” or “P-894” printed on the packaging.

The products were sold online and in stores nationwide, including to school districts and Department of Defense facilities.

They were packaged between March 17 and Sept. 26 at a facility in Haltom City, Texas, according to a statement from Tyson Foods.

The USDA advises consumers, schools and institutions that purchased the recalled products to discard them or return them to the place of initial purchase. Anyone with injury concerns is urged to contact a health care provider.

For questions about the recall, consumers can contact Christina Self, associate director of customer care at the Hillshire Brands Company, at 888-747-7611.
