(NewsNation) — BMW of North America has issued a park outside recall for nearly 200,000 vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall involves a potential fire risk while the vehicles are parked or being driven.

The recall affects certain 2019-2022 models, including:

  • BMW 2019-2022 Z4
  • BMW 2019-2021 330I
  • BMW 2020-2022 X3
  • BMW 2020-2022 X4
  • BMW 2020-2022 530I
  • BMW 2021-2022 430I standard and convertible
  • BMW 2022 230I

“Owners should park outside and away from buildings and other vehicles until they either confirm their vehicle is not subject to the recall or have their vehicle remedied,” the NHTSA said.

The NHTSA added that the vehicles’ engine starter relay may corrode, which can cause the relay to overheat and short-circuit, leading to a fire.

BMW will be conducting a phased recall due to the limited availability of parts. They are scheduled to mail notification letters to owners on Nov. 14, with a second notice being sent as remedy parts are available.

The NHTSA acknowledged the recall also affects 2020-2022 Toyota Supra vehicles manufactured by BMW.
